A Heartfelt Thank You: Donor Appreciation Night at the Dorchester Heritage Center

This October, the Dorchester Heritage Center hosted a memorable Donor Appreciation Night at the Candle Light Pavilion at Summerville Country Club. The evening was a celebration of our generous supporters whose contributions continue to make a lasting impact on preserving the rich history of Dorchester County. The event brought together community leaders, volunteers, and benefactors, all united in their commitment to our shared heritage.

Honoring Our Leading Philanthropists

A special recognition goes to Brunson Westbury and Harriet and Herman Holman, whose generous philanthropic support has made them our largest individual donors. Their unwavering commitment to the Heritage Center has not only helped us advance our mission but has also inspired others to follow in their footsteps. Their contributions serve as a powerful example of the difference that community-minded individuals can make, and we are profoundly grateful for their dedication.

Celebrating Additional Supporters

We are also pleased to acknowledge a few other  generous supporters, whose contributions have been vital to our continued success:

  • Tony Pope – A steadfast supporter who has played a crucial role in our efforts.
  • Edsel Taylor – Whose commitment to the Heritage Center has greatly contributed to our progress.
  • Bank of SC – For their invaluable support that has helped us grow and thrive.

These donors have not only provided financial assistance but have also shown a deep appreciation for preserving the history and culture of our region.

Recognizing the Visionaries and Early Advocates

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to those whose vision and early efforts laid the groundwork for our achievements:

  • Phyllis Hughes, whose foresight and dedication have been instrumental in shaping the Heritage Center’s direction.
  • Rudd Smith, for his outstanding volunteer leadership that continues to guide us toward our goals.
  • Rep. Joe Jefferson, whose early and critical efforts to secure state support were key to getting the Heritage Center off the ground.

Their contributions, whether through leadership, vision, or advocacy, have been fundamental in building a strong foundation for the Dorchester Heritage Center.

Moving Forward Together

The Donor Appreciation Night was not only an opportunity to celebrate our supporters but also a reminder of the strength and unity within our community. It is through the combined efforts of our donors, volunteers, and advocates that we are able to continue preserving the history of Dorchester County for future generations.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to our cause, and we look forward to building on this momentum together. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to honoring our shared heritage.
