Elizabeth Dantzler Valentine

A Valentine from Elizabeth Dantzler to her love, LA Harper. Dated February 14th, year unknown. From the Harper Dantzler collection of approximately 100 letters between Harper and Dantzler. In the letters Harper, hired as a tutor for Dantzler and her sisters, professes his love for her and tells of the hardships of the Civil War. The poem, which begins “None here are happy,” implying that the card was written while the two were separated by war.
