Dorchester, SC — The Dorchester Heritage Center is honored to announce a generous grant award of $25,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of their initiative to fund Public Impact Projects at Smaller Organizations. This grant will support the development of a new permanent exhibition focusing on the history and culture of Native American tribes in the Inland Lowcountry of South Carolina.
The upcoming exhibit will be a cornerstone of the new Dorchester Heritage Center facility, providing residents and visitors alike with an in-depth look at the rich and diverse heritage of Native American communities in the region. Through artifacts, interpretive displays, and educational programming, the exhibition aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures and their enduring legacy in South Carolina.

The NEH awarded a total of $22.6 million to 219 humanities projects nationwide, underscoring the importance of preserving and sharing diverse cultural narratives across the country. The Dorchester Heritage Center’s project was selected for its potential to make a lasting public impact and enrich the cultural landscape of the community.
