The Dorchester Heritage Center is pleased to announce the appointment of David Dement as its new Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Mr. Dement will oversee the hiring for several newly announced positions and manage the substantial development of the new center in Ridgeville. He officially accepted the position during a special Board Meeting held on June 12, 2024.

Mr. Dement brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Dorchester Heritage Center. His background in managing large-scale projects and his commitment to preserving local history make him an invaluable addition to the team. The Board of Directors and the entire organization are enthusiastic about the future under his leadership.

About David Dement :
Dave has 40 years in the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure systems for the private sector and health care for the Medical University of South Carolina, Tinsley Mullen Engineering and is presently the Senior Engineer for the College of Charleston Dave has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and is also a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager as well as a Certified Health Care Constructor with the American Hospital Association.

Dave is also on the Faculty Staff of the American Society of Health Care Engineers and teaches hospital construction all over the U.S. Dave joined the Dorchester Heritage Center in 2018 and was instrumental in the development and opening of the Center’s Veteran Room which features many of the local heroes of Dorchester and the surrounding region. Dave also has led the DHC in the planning, design and construction of DHC’s new facility and was named Project Manager of the construction phase activities. Dave has served both as a Board of Trustees member and Executive Board Member and in June of 2024 Dave was named Chief Operating Officer for the organization. Dave has always had a love of history, especially American Military History and is also a collector of Militaria, some of which is displayed in the Dorchester Heritage Center Veterans Room in St George SC. Dave is the Author of the Book RED TIDE, the story of the Confederate Prison War Camp at Point Lookout Maryland during the Civil War.
