Dorchester Heritage Center Announces New Team Members

The Dorchester Heritage Center is excited to welcome two new faces to the team, each bringing a wealth of experience and passion to help us advance our mission of discovering, preserving, and celebrating the history of the Inland Lowcountry.

Bob Sherman will serve as the new Director of Museum Operations. Bob joins us with nearly 30 years of experience in public history, most recently at Middleton Place. There, he wore many hats, from leading horse-drawn carriage tours and blacksmithing to growing Carolina Gold rice and managing volunteer programs.

Bob shared his enthusiasm for the role, saying, “I’m excited to dive into Dorchester County’s rich history and help shape the new Heritage Center. I envision it as a place where both locals and visitors can enjoy engaging natural history programs and special events while exploring how broader American history intersects with our own unique story.”

In addition to his impressive career, Bob is also a US Army veteran who served with the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

Joining Bob is Katelyn Wagers, who will be the new Director of Membership and Annual Giving. Katelyn brings valuable experience from her time with the Atlanta Braves, where she focused on membership engagement and collaboration.

“I’ve always had a deep passion for history, especially exploring my own family history and the stories of the places I’ve lived,” said Wagers. “The mission of the Dorchester Heritage Center truly resonates with me, and I’m excited to help share this vision throughout the Lowcountry.”

At the Dorchester Heritage Center, we’re committed to enriching our community by fostering a deep connection to our extraordinary and ever-evolving history. We aim to support schools with immersive learning experiences and build connections that celebrate our shared appreciation of place and each other.
